a successful outing in Fishtown

Spent only $15 thrifting today and managed to get some cool stuff.

1. 1970's metal hem and button hole guide
2. Boy scout patch
3. Mending sets from hotel in Turkey
4. Necklace charm that features a silver map of Monrovia
5. Iron on letters
6. Huge spool of blue thread
7. Yellow bird lapel pin
8. An awesome leather purse by "Philippe"
9. "The Automatic Needle Threader"- I have no idea how this works, but according to the directions, if you use it you will find your needles threaded "as if by magic." Sounds good, and it was only 25 cents.

Off to write a business plan. If you've ever successfully written one and want to come over and write it for me, I'll buy you dinner.

a well designed cat palace

I found the perfect cat house. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, of course.

There are a hundred other great things in the upcoming Wright sale, but for some reason I keep finding myself drawn to this beautiful lamp by Jean Royere. Who knows. The color? The symmetry? Something.

weekend wrap-up

Hot diggity. Sue Stemp understands how clothes fit. Those are some nice designs. Esp. Spring 2007.

*turn sound off, especially if you are at work!!

My parents were visiting this weekend, so while entertaining them, I managed to entertain myself quite a bit as well. We bought spices, pasta, olive oil, cheese and plums at Italian Market, ate way too much (Bassett's ice cream will cause my untimely death due to diabetic shock within a year) saw the Liberty Bell (it's big....and cracked), read 200 historical plaques (my family loves historical plaques), and explored more of Northern Liberties, my neighborhood.

Sunday was so great. I haven't spent a Sunday in such a pleasant way in a long, long time. I woke up late. I ate cereal and drank coffee and took a silly personality test on the computer. I watched "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." I read most of the New York Times across the street at Bar Ferdinand with a Cafe con Leche and some empinadas. I got the sewing room finished and fixed three garments that have been in a pile waiting to be altered/fixed. I did laundry in OUR OWN WASHER AND DRYER and not in a common laundry room. I made a nice dinner with some goodies we bought at Italian Market. I should have Sundays like that more often.

tell me who do you love?

Ok, fess up. Which one of you gave me a subscription to Selvedge? I will make a Venn diagram, and one of the circles represents the people that read this blog and the other circle represents the people that know I love Selvedge magazine. The place where those two circles intersect contain my suspects.

Guess what? I don't hate Philly so much. In fact, I'm starting to really like it.

I finally got my sewing room together (in a closet under the stairs) and am super excited about getting started with some projects. As usual, I have been scheming about things.

Sorry I haven't updated my website in a long time, but I am revamping things around BR headquarters, and rather than make little changes, I want to make them all at once. So sit tight!

Enjoy fall, do something creative every day, eat some caramel appleas, make new friends. See you soon.

wow, this salad tastes really good. i wonder if it will make me sick later.

Well now, it has been an eventful couple of days, hasn't it?

This week there was torrential rain, my first ride on a trolley, a visit to the fascinating Harry's Occult Shop to buy a gift (photo from this post was taken there), meetings with accountants, food poisoning from a SALAD of all things, really good peach pie from Amish folks, electrical outages, a relaxing pedicure, more threats to the apartment company if they don't find my missing boxes, etc etc etc. You know. The usual.

And then I found shoes that were sent to me from the Lord. It's true. He said to me, "Aimee...I know this has been a difficult time for you. So here's what I'm going to do: I will give you shoes that I made just for you. When you look at them, you will know that they are the shoes you will wear for the rest of your life. You will say that over and over to anyone who will listen. Now here's the catch: I will make them so #$% uncomfortable that you will have to return them the next day. This will teach you that you can't always get what you want. Now put those old sandals back on and stop your wimpering."

Today was the day that I was supposed to get Betsy Ross back up and running again. Not gonna happen. The bad news is that I think Betsy Ross is going to have to go on an extended vacation. For the past 2 years I have juggled my day job and Betsy Ross (and 1o other things) and I'm just really tired. My new job is not just a day job. It's an evening job and a night job and it's going to take a lot of energy. Maybe in a few months I can figure out how to make it all work. Maybe not. If not, it was fun. I hope you had fun too.

Right now I am looking forward to working on some personal projects. You know, like maybe sewing something for myself for once. Maybe more needlework. More Goodwill shopping. More ripping apart old clothes and reconstructing them into new ones. More collecting of outsider art and milk glass. More shopping for purses. More reading of books. Sounds good to me.

Oh yeah, I have a lot of BR patterns under my bed, so if you want something, I can probably get it to you. Or you can probably also still get most of the patterns through the retail stores listed on the links section of my website.

Considering the contents of my workshop is still boxed up, half under the bed and half in a closet, I don't think that's going to happen.
