Wow, what a crazy week. I was in NY for the big Kahuna: the ADAA Art Show. A week of talking nonstop about art has left my brain a little fuzzy, and a week away from my life has left me a little out of touch...what's my name again? Wait...I have a cat?

I was disappointed that I was either too busy or too tired to do a lot of things that I wanted to. I had grand plans of hitting the Whitney for the Gordon Matta-Clark exhibition, going out to Brooklyn on some errands, meeting up with some friends at The Armory Show, but in the end, I was simply too worn out to do a lot after work each night.

I did go to a very, very fun Oscar party for Zing Magazine at the Tribeca Grand Hotel where I got some shampoo in a goodie bag and played musical chairs. I also had wine spilled down the length of my arm- look, if you are going to play musical chairs, put your drink down.

So anyhoo. Sorry about the long hiatus. Have a great week, and I promise to not be a stranger.

sharks v. tigers

I have been working away on some limited-edition screenprints that I will be making into bag kits. The kit would come with the fabric (pre-cut) and the instruction booklet to put it together. The drawings of the shark and tiger were done by Casey Riordan Millard, a very talented artist and friend.

Here's a few designs. What do you think? They're pretty cheeky. I love sharks, and I love the idea of a gang of sharks fighting a gang of tigers. Each one would be a little different.

great fabric site

If you haven't yet stumbled upon Super Buzzy, take a look. It's a great Japanese fabric/ notions/ gift site. Their tote bags are really cute.

The 100-Mile Suit

I'm really excited and honored to have been asked to play a role in the creation of the "100 Mile Suit," organized by Philadelphia artist/designer/teacher/collaborator/awesome Kelly Cobb.

Based on the "100 Mile Diet," the idea is to make a full suit (including shoes and buttons!!) with materials sourced from within 100 miles of Philadelphia. I feel like the 100 Mile Suit is best described on their website:

" The 100-Mile Suit is a literal examination of the question "where did you get your outfit?" A fiber to finish project inspired by initiatives in sustainability such as the 100-mile diet, community supported agriculture, local car-share transport and creative collectives. The 100-mile suit unravels the disconnect of consumer to product by reintegrating and reconnecting the wearer of clothes to local trades and economies."

I'm excited to be part of such a relevant, interesting project.... I will be making the vest! The suit will debut at the Institute of Contemporary Art here in Philadelphia on March 25.

This is what day-offs are for: watching cable, drinking limoncello, and FINALLY breaking out the screenprinting kit I got through a trade a long time ago. Behold: my first screenprint design! Small beginnings....but I've got schemes!

I have donated some Betsy Ross goodies to the Red Dress Gala in Chicago (February 17), benefitting the Alpha Phi Foundation. They support awareness for a cause that is close to my heart (no pun intended). If you are in Chicago and you can swing it (or if you can get your company can swing it), buy a ticket!

paper paper paper

My new official paper supplier is Egg Press. I love everything they do. I think I am going to ask them if I can move to Portland and have an internship.

Who's side are you on??

I feel very torn about the Superbowl, and I don't really even like football. Indiana is technically my home, but Chicago is my adopted home. How could I chose who to support in a situation like this?

Thank God for the awesome "Bear vs. Colt" videos. My favorite is the one where they are doing that dancing-video-game - just click #3....trust me.

stitchin' on a shirt

This cross stitch on the Sabine Brandt website is really cool. The possibilities are endless for this sort of thing.

I think something like this would look great on a skirt, or even on a blouse near the hemline around the stomach? Kind of unexpected and quirky.

New collaboration with Phildelphia Sewing Collective

I'm pleased to announce that Betsy Ross will begin collaborating with the Philadelphia Sewing Collective. They are doing some really creative, interesting things and I'm so pleased and honored to be a part of it.

Although we're still working out some details, one solid plan is that I will be hosting a table at the PSC Fabric Swap on April 15. I think it's going to be a really fun event, so if you are around Philadelphia, you should definitely mark it on your calendar.
