my love/hate affair with the trash room

Things I have found in the trash room over the last month:
1. Black Bandolino ankle books, exactly my size, never worn
2. Nice table lamp that Mr. D. named "Trash Lamp."
3. Delightfully quiet and perfectly functioning Kenmore Magic Blue vacuum
4. HP PSC 1350 All-In-One Printer/Scanner/Copier. I hooked it up last night and it scans like a dream.
So the good thing about the trash room is that it does mean that sometimes you score. But more often than not, it's not it's a smelly, dirty pit because I live with slovenly college students.
Anyway. It's got me thinking about how little material objects I've purchased over the last year. Expendable goods, yes, like paper and food and shampoo and such. But I've bought very little clothes and shoes (compared to my past habits), maybe 2 cds, a few books (mostly free from work or gifts)....most of all, it's been a little hard not buying clothing, honestly. I have completely avoided going into stores because I know I don't have the willpower to resist. The good news is that this means that we have not added to our pile of belongings (except for a new all-in-one copier/scanner/printer and a vacuum), so our move to our new apartment will b no harder than it was last time. I like that idea.

fancy pants are finished!!
Will wonders never cease.... the #003 Fancy Pants pattern is finally finished and ready for you to buy buy buy! It comes in the full sizing chart, which I'm really happy about. I promise they are easy to make as well!
I haven't fixed the button on the website yet, but I hope to do that later tonight. However, until that happens, you can place an order directly through me today by emailing me at betsyrosspatterns at gmail dot com.
Please note: these pants take an invisible zipper, so please make sure you buy the right kind when you hit the store.

I think next time I hit a fabric store I'm going to pick up some jersey to make this no-sew jersey scarf inspired by American Apparel. (This link is to a great website, by the way- filled with great ideas.)

double gees belt

Remember when I said that creative projects were going to be put on hold? I lied. Creating things is kind of keeping me from losing my mind.
I made this belt from a vintage clasp I got awhile back on Ebay and a thin scrap of black canvas. Quick and cute. Perhaps I will use some of the leather samples I acquired lately and make some interchangeable straps.

what's a blog?

I want the hair on the girl second from the right. Why did my hair never look like that?
So what have I been up to these days? Golly, a lot.
First, there was Curiousbird's wedding in Staatsburg, NY. Mr. D and I rode up there with the beautiful Upma and her boyfriend Clay and we had a great time laughing and relaxing. We tried to go on a hike by the Hudson River but couldn't find the trail (long story) and were a little afraid of zombies and so we decided to go eat pizza instead. (A lot of my stories go a little something like that). n And then there was the wedding, where we ate a lot, drank a lot, and danced like fools. Good times. I'm sure she'll be posting some good photos soon. Hopefully no one noticed that my dress was an old bridesmaid dress kicked up a notch with a pretty ribbon and let out a little bit to accommodate my not-24-anymore body. Hey, that bride was right....I DID wear it again!!!
Back in Philly, I sewed some pockets on aprons for Duross and Langel and am now enjoying a candle I got in exchange for the work.
The SoReFa fashion show happened while I was out of town...I wonder if anyone got any photos I can have? I had 1" buttons made for the show by a great local company called Punk Rock Payroll. I definitely recommend getting buttons from them. Super cheap and fast. They go fast- I need to put in another order.
And then I schemed about new patterns (you're gonna love them! so cute!!! ahhhhhhh!!!!) And now we continue looking for a new apartment for Mr. D. and I to move into within the next three weeks. Is anything more stressful than finding a new apartment? Probably, but I think it's terrible.
So creative projects are on the back burner as I try to keep my sanity with the growing piles of boxes in the living room. But I'm still here, I promise.
